MAMBA'S MISSION
What I Aspire To Do
1
EMPOWERING POTENTIAL
Empower and mentor entrepreneurs, especially immigrants and first-time founders. Mamba is committed to using his journey as a blueprint for others, offering guidance and mentorship to immigrant and Black entrepreneurs. By sharing his experiences openly, he helps others build businesses rooted in culture, purpose, and sustainability.
2
EMPOWERING THE COMMNUNITY
Strengthen community through opportunity and inclusivity. From hiring at Freedom House Detroit to offering job opportunities to refugees and immigrants, Mamba believes in creating pathways for success. His ventures are designed not just as businesses, but as spaces that fuel resilience, provide access, and ensure that communities thrive together.
3
UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVITY
Celebrate creativity by drawing from his cultural roots. Whether through food, products, or storytelling, Mamba channels the flavors, traditions, and spirit of East Africa into everything he creates. His innovative approach demonstrates how honoring one’s heritage can inspire fresh ideas, spark dialogue, and bring global cultures closer together.

MEET MAMBA
I’m Passionate About Mentoring Immigrants and First-Time Entrepreneurs
From arriving in Detroit as an asylum seeker to becoming a celebrated chef, entrepreneur, and Food Network Champion, Hamissi Mamba’s journey is a powerful story of resilience and reinvention. Through Baobab Fare, he and his wife Nadia have created more than a restaurant—they’ve built a symbol of culture, hope, and community that continues to inspire far beyond Detroit.
Today, as Mamba expands his ventures and shares the flavors of his Burundian heritage with the world, he is also stepping into a new role: guiding others as a business coach. With a heart for mentoring immigrants and first-time founders, he is dedicated to helping others transform challenges into opportunities, just as he has.
HEAR FROM THOSE WHO'VE WORKED WITH ME
"Mamba is what you want the rest of humanity to be like.”
ELIZABETH OROZCO-VASQUEZ, CEO OF FREEDOM HOUSE DETROIT
“It was just incredible; like nothing I’d ever tasted before. Their personality and passion just came out in the food.”
VITTORIA KATANSKI, FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF HATCH DETROIT
"Hamissi Mamba, a refugee from Burundi, knew little of American culture when he arrived eight years ago and learned English watching the ‘Peppa Pig’ cartoon. But he opened his dream restaurant, and the accolades have rolled in.”
AMY HAIMERL, THE NEW YORK TIMES
